It’s that time of year when the ground is covered with snow, most activities are indoors and people begin to yearn for the first signs of Spring.  Since we went live with the website in the Fall, we have been pretty quiet over here at Fun’l Frenzy… but guess what?   We’re back!  People often call us and ask where they can buy a funnel cake or want to know where we are located?  In the warmer months, that question always gets me excited as I start to rattle off all of the wonderful and fun-filled festivals we are apart of.  In the winter months, when I get those phone calls, it almost pains me to tell people that we are mobile business and we don’t have a permanent location where one can get a funnel cake any day of the year.

So what do we know in these cold winter months.  Well.. it is this time of year that we are actively seeking out events to participate in, downloading applications and updating our calendar with tentative event dates.  This season, I am personally so excited about Fun’l Frenzy because it is our first season with our new and beautifully designed trailer.  And this year we will have the big reveal of the second Fun’l Frenzy trailer, so that we can participate in even more amazing events throughout Ohio.  So come on Old Man Winter and give us a break, over here at Fun’l Frenzy we are ready to put down the hot chocolate and pick up the whipped cream (for our strawberry works funnel cakes that is… with fresh strawberries drizzled with chocolate and whipped cream).

Bring on the Spring!

 

One of the great things we’ve realized since our 2006 start is how we can use our business to support our community in creative ways. The invitations we receive to participate in various causes truly move us as community members and as a family.

This year we have participated in several fundraisers that directly impact our community and align with our values including: The H.O.P.E Picnic and Pelotonia.

The H.O.P.E. Homeless/Outreach/Programs/Events Picnic, now in it’s fifth year is a ministry that reaches out to the homeless in Columbus. This ministry gives aid to people who live in tents or under the viaducts and bridges. The goal is to help them with the basic needs of life.

It’s such a pleasure to see the delight and excitement of people enjoying our fun’l cakes. Picnic goers and organizers alike are thankful we donate our desserts to the event. We are truly the thankful ones to contribute and be invited back year-after-year.

The other community event we enjoy being a part of is the Pelotonia. The goal of Pelotonia is simple: One Goal, End Cancer. Pelotonia’s operating expenses are covered by funding partners so that 100% of every dollar raised by Pelotonia bicycle riders, virtual riders and volunteers goes directly to fund cancer research at The Ohio State University Comprehensive Cancer Center—Arthur G. James Cancer Hospital and Richard J. Solove Research Institute.  My family, like so many others, was directly impacted by this disease when my aunt was diagnosed with lung cancer.  It was a shock to our entire family and made me personally become more interested in actively joining the fight for a cure.

This year marks my third Pelotonia ride and once again it was an amazing experience. I continue to be excited by the opportunity to support such an important cause; not simply writing a check, but committing my mind, my body, my energy and my heart to this challenging ride.Last year, I knew I didn’t want to do the ride alone, so when I signed up to ride 100 miles from the campus of Ohio State to the campus of Ohio University, my son was by my side. This year was a momentous event as well because I was riding as a member of Team Navigator, alongside people that have very quickly become not only my co-workers, but my friends.

Thank you to Pelotonia for continuing the commitment to fight this disease!

Like many eateries on wheels, the summer is a busy, busy time. Since April, we have been all over central Ohio meeting great people and seeing fair goers enjoy the best fun’l cakes they’ve ever had!

Alongside an active festival schedule including some of our favorites like Red, White and Boom, Pickerington Violet Festival, the Ohio Challenge Hot Air Ballon Festival and Pride Festival we’ve been putting together a new look that truly captures why we say “Fun’l Frenzy puts the ‘fun’ in fun’l cakes.”

Perhaps you’ve seen some bread crumbs of our new look. We released our new logo to fans on Facebook, Twitter (@FunlFrenzyCbus) and Instagram (funlfrenzycbus). That new logo now distinguishes our trailer too. It features our mouth watering sweet treats and we’ve received great feedback from fans about the logo and trailer.

Now is the big reveal of our new website that completes our new look and brand. It’s been a delight to work with fellow Columbus area small business, Allison Lehman Designs. She’s a design genius and has captured a look that demonstrates the delight and excitement we see on customer’s faces when they take their first bite of our fun’l cakes.

So, we’re celebrating our release with the relaunch party to end all relaunch parties! You’re invited to join us Thursday, October 3, 2013 from 5:30pm to 7:30pm.
